Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Mitchell Ducey is a partner at Masserman & Ducey.  In his 30 years of practicing law, Mitchell has provided a wide array of services to his clients and has achieved successful outcomes at trial, arbitration, mediation and appeals.  His current areas of concentration, several arising in the insurance defense framework, include premises liability, catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death, landlord-tenant habitability, real estate, homeowners association disputes, motor vehicle negligence, and the alleged presence of toxic substances in various settings.  Mitchell also practices in the areas of business litigation, appellate litigation, construction defect, intellectual property, and transportation and shipping.

Mitchell attended the University of North Carolina for undergraduate, graduate and law school.  He received his Bachelor’s degree with highest honors and a Master’s degree in History with a concentration in 19th and 20th century African-American History.  Influenced by his mother, who had a long career as a legal secretary and law office manager, Mitchell went to law school in the mid-1980’s and became a staff member and Editor-in-Chief of the North Carolina Law Review.  After law school Mitchell moved to Boston to be closer to family for one cold winter before moving to Southern California, where he began his law practice in a Long Beach maritime law firm.  Mitchell is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in California.

Mitchell is also pleased to have a large returning clientele who seek his ongoing assistance for purposes of corporate and contractual matters and for litigation avoidance.  He is national counsel for a large Texas transportation company and represents a number of small and medium sized eCommerce clients.  Mitchell is also honored to have been repeatedly contacted and hired by other attorneys and their clients to provide assistance as lead trial and appellate counsel on particularly problematic cases.  He has been admitted pro hac vice on cases in Arizona, Missouri, Nebraska, New York and Rhode Island.

In his spare time Mitchell realizes his passion for writing and story-telling and is an avid film buff.  He has written a number of screenplays and teleplays, short stories and poetry.  Having grown up surrounded by and participating in sports, Mitchell is an avid fan particularly during the college football and basketball season.
